The StellarScope AM/PA is a state-of-the-art analytical platform that seamlessly integrates automated mapping and particle analysis, integrating micron-scale morphological imaging with Raman spectroscopy under the guidance of intelligent software control. Designed for high-precision material characterization, the system enables users to detect, measure, classify, and chemically identify microscopic particles across a wide range of applications. This solution is powered by Particle Wizard™, a comprehensive software suite that automates every step of the workflow — from image acquisition and segmentation to Raman targeting and AI-based material identification.
The system is further enhanced by Spectral ID™, an embedded machine learning engine that performs real-time classification of Raman spectra against a comprehensive spectral library, delivering accurate chemical identification with confidence scoring.
The StellarScope AM/PA system is ideally suited for use in:
- Semiconductor and electronics manufacturing – Cleanliness testing, foreign material detection
- Pharmaceutical and life sciences – Particle ID, excipient verification, contamination analysis
- Food and packaging – Microplastic detection, material migration studies
- Environmental and forensic laboratories – Trace particle identification, evidence analysis
- Automotive, aerospace, and industrial QA/QC – Material verification, process validation
By combining quantitative image-based particle analysis with Raman spectral fingerprinting, this system enables a level of insight and reliability that exceeds conventional optical inspection techniques. It is particularly valuable in environments where regulatory compliance, process control, or failure analysis depend on precise material characterization at the micron scale.
How It Works: 6-Step Workflow
An Intuitive, Automated Workflow
Although highly sophisticated, the workflow is designed to be accessible, streamlined, and user-friendly. Particle Wizard™ guides operators through every stage — from imaging to final report — with minimal manual input, ensuring consistent, reproducible, and high-quality results.
Step 1: High-Resolution Scanning & Mapping
Clients define a region of interest (ROI) in µm and starting position within Particle Wizard™. After that, the system then captures and stitches high-resolution tile images into a seamless composite view of the sample. The map is calibrated in microns, ensuring that particle size and coordinates represent true physical scale — essential for accurate measurement, repeatable Raman targeting, and traceable data.
Step 2: Particle Detection & Segmentation
Customers can choose from different segmentation algorithms, adjust parameters, and filter particles by size, circularity, and aspect ratio. The system generates a binary mask, draws contours around each particle, annotates the centroid, and assigns unique labels, creating a clear and indexed particle map.
Step 3: Particle Measurement & Classification
Particle Wizard™ calculates detailed particle properties including major/minor axis length (µm), area, perimeter, circularity, aspect ratio, eccentricity, solidity, extent, and centroid coordinates (µm). All measurements are linked to the particle label ID and compiled into a results table for review and export.
Step 4: Raman Spectral Acquisition
End users can collect Raman spectra by selecting individual particle IDs from the results table or by targeting all detected particles. The automated stage aligns each particle’s centroid with the Raman laser beam, ensuring accurate and reproducible spectral acquisition.
Step 5: Raman Spectral Matching & Classification
Each spectrum is analyzed with Spectral ID™, which applies Machine Learning and AI algorithms to match the Raman signature against a reference library. The system assigns the best match material type to each particle and records both the spectrum and classification in the results table.
Step 6: Reporting, Visualization & Output
Particle Wizard™ generates a complete report, saving all results and visualizations in an organized output folder. Outputs include:
- Annotated and composite images
- Binary and morphological masks
- Statistical plots: area distribution, area vs. circularity, area vs. perimeter, aspect ratio distribution, circularity distribution, perimeter distribution, solidity distribution, and spatial distribution
- Tables with particle measurements, Raman spectra, and AI-based classifications
These outputs provide both visual evidence and quantitative data, ensuring traceability, reproducibility, and compliance with QA, regulatory, and research requirements. The StellarScope AM/PA delivers accurate, high-throughput particle characterization and identification, helping industries maintain quality standards, meet compliance requirements, and gain deeper insights into their materials.
