Raman spectroscopy is a non-destructive technique for identification and analysis of many types of samples.  This is opposed to other techniques such as LIBS spectroscopy or Gas Chromatography that destroy the sample tested in order to achieve results.  With Raman, be sure to verify the correct excitation wavelength as well as the maximum power applied to your sample.  If you deliver too much laser light to your sample it can burn.  To optimize your signal you will want to adjust your laser power just less then this amount.
