Fluorescence spectroscopy uses the process of fluorescence to learn about samples. Because of the nature of fluorescence, a single excitation wavelength can produce a fluorescence spectrum that can be used to identify samples. The Spectral ID application in the SpectraWiz software can compare spectra to a database of spectra and determine probable compound matches.

Experimental Considerations: Fluorescence is emitted in all directions, so signal is often collected at 90° from the incident beam to avoid collecting any transmitted light.
