PORTA-LIBS-2000 for Laser Induced Breakdown Spectoscopy
StellarNet and Kigre have indroduced a truely portable element analyzer to identify compounds for a variety of industrial applications including defense and security for chemical, biological, soil, metals, forensics, and other material analysis. The PORTA-LIBS-2000 instrument integrates portable spectrometers made by StellarNet (Tampa, Florida) and Kigres’ (Hilton Head, SC) nanosecond pulsed, Nd:YAG NIR Laser that delivers 6 MegaWatts to create a plasma. The portable instrument case is just 18 x 14 x 7 inches and operates via 12 volt adapter or battery, with two high resolution spectrometers. Depending on detection requirements, up to 8 spectrometers can be attached via USB-2 computer interface.
Laser Induced Breakdown Spectroscopy or LIBS has become the common acronym for element detection using laser plasma. This permits real-time qualitative identification of trace elements in solids, gases, and liquids using optical detection of elemental emission spectra. Using this technique, little or no sample preparation is required and calibration-free quantitative analysis is possible without matrix effects.
The SpectraWiz software provides element identification via spectral database for qualitative measurements. Samples are quickly measured and saved to a text log-file. Compound element libraries can be created and searched. Customizable programs are also included to operate directly from Excel+VBA and LabVIEW.

RED-Wave NIR InGaAs 1024 Spectrometers

RED-Wave-NIRX-SR extended near infrared 900-2300nm
StellarNet has announced high performance NIR spectrometers for the 0.9-2.2um range with optics that have no moving parts. The TE cooled detectors are InGaAs photo diode arrays with 1024 pixels, each 25um wide and 500um tall. Extended range detectors for 1.4-2.2um are 250um tall. The RED-Wave NIR-InGaAs are miniature fiber optic spectrometers used for lab and portable applications. Several models provide various operational ranges and optical resolutions (from 4nm down to 0.2nm) suitable for both spectroscopy and optical spectrum analysis.
A 2.5 MHz digitizer delivers NIR spectra in 1ms via high speed parallel or USB-2 interface. SpectraWiz software includes spectroscopy measurements for transmission, reflectance, absorption, and spectroradiometry. Additonal programs are provided for LabVIEW, VC, VBA-Excel, and Delphi for cusomization. Applications include thin-film measurements, moisture analysis, tunable laser characterization, and optical power monitoring.
The portable spectrometers are packaged in small rugged enclosures with SMA905 fiber optic input, and attach directly to high speed IEEE1284 parallel or USB-2 ports. Numerous models provide variety of operational ranges for UV-VIS-NIR (up to 2200nm) with optical resolutions (down to 0.1nm) suitable for spectroscopy (chemical and optical analysis, radiometry, colorimetry), optical spectrum analysis, process control & monitoring, and remote sensing.
The spectrometers include the multi-application SpectraWiz software with drivers and sample code for LabVIEW, VC, VBA and Delphi under Win9x/Me /NT /2000 /XP. Surf www.StellarNet-Inc.com or phone +1-813-855-8687.
